St Luke's is the church on the corner, embracing the community, welcoming diversity, and offering hope. We strive in everything we do to make disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We believe we can create stronger communities and do more for God when we partner together in all our resources.

Our Staff

Jim Simpson, D Min 


Jim Simpson has been a UMC pastor since 1975 serving Missouri congregations including St Luke’s UMC from 1997 – 2005. Jim studied at UMKC and has an M Div and D Min (Christian formation and spiritual direction) from Saint Paul School of Theology. Jim retired in 2020 as Superintendent of the Heartland District. Jim is a spiritual director and retreat leader working with other pastors in the Missouri area. He also provides coaching for pastors and congregations. Jim shares pastoral responsibilities with Rev Loretta (Bobbie) Stone.

Jim is married to Peggy Elaine Cooper Simpson. They share seven children (plus spouses and significant others) along with ten grandchildren. Jim and Peggy love St Luke’s congregation and are committed to its vision of embracing the community, welcoming diversity, and offering hope.

Rhonda Doak, Office Manager


Rhonda has been with St. Lukes United Methodist Church since December 2021. Prior  to working at St. Luke's, she worked and volunteered for a Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Missouri for five years. She is currently working on her BS in Psychology to become a Trauma and Grief Counselor. 


She brings many new ideas, organizations, and people together for the betterment of the church. Rhonda is a mother of three wonderful boys and one precious little girl. 


Garry Kemp, Leadership Team Chair

Garry is retired from the construction industry and has been a member of the St. Luke's congregation for many years. Serving in many leadership roles, Garry firmly believes every individual has value and purpose in today's complicated world. He and his wife Sue have three children and five grandchildren. 


 



Jim Slone, Finance Chair


Jim Slone, a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church-Kansas City, MO since 1980, grew up in Jefferson County, MO and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1968. He graduated from the US Military Academy, West Point in 1972, commissioned as 2LT in the US Army. He served on active duty in Germany, 1973-1976 and in Ft. Jackson, SC, 1976-1977. He graduated from UMKC Law School in 1980. He served in the US Army Reserve from July 1981 to August 2001, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel, and the unit Command Judge Advocate. In 2015 he retired as Senior Litigation Counsel for the Missouri Department of Transportation, after 25 years of service. He has three adult sons and eight grandchildren. He enjoys long distance running, downhill skiing, traveling with his wife, Marianna, and visiting his children and grandchildren.



Bob Love, Trustee ChairBob Love, Trustee Chair


In preparation for his role as the Trustee Chair, Bob has served in many different leadership roles at St. Luke’s over the years. In addition to his church responsibilities, Bob stays busy volunteering with three other non-profit organization in the Kansas City area.


Bob and his wife Sue have been members of St. Luke’s for more than 20 years. They have two children and four grandchildren.
